LO4: KTA 2: All Images Edited & Evidence of Change With Justifications for Technique Applied

Final Photos:

My final photos required more editing than I had initially thought. This is because I planned to use the bulb setting and hadn't realised that to make effective light paintings it would need to be in total darkness, when I tried to do light painting on location there were too many other lights affecting the overall look. Instead on light painting on location I took shots of what I wanted to add light paintings giving me a base and then I did the lettering in light painting at home using the bulb setting and to create the stencils I used a cardboard, felt pens, cellophane and a light box again using the settings on bulb.

Showroom:

With this image I was relatively happy with the colouring and the exposure of the signs. For all the photographs I created a light stencil of the logo and for this photograph I used the cropping tool to create the straight lines of the Showroom's logo and added a glow effect. I then increased the transparency of the logo and made three copies each in its own layer. I repositioned each one and tilted them slightly to make a curved shape around the building. For the bottom logo I used the rectangular marquee tool to try and make it look as though its behind the building. For the letter I simply used the magic eraser and added the S to the top layer.

Henderson's Relish:

Again I was happy with the composition of the base photograph so all that needed to be added was the lettering and light stencils. I used the magnetic lasso tool to cut the Henderson's bottle out,  reduced the transparency and then I made an additional five copies each in their own layer. I reduced the transparency to make it look like a more authentic light stencil. I arranged the bottles along the roof as I thought it made the building more interesting. Then placed the last one in the doorway and reduced its transparency to make it stand out more. For the lettering I used the magic eraser and  added it to the top left hand corner.

Crucible and Lyceum Theater:

I was happy with the colouring so I left the base photograph as it was. I used the magnetic lasso tool to cut out the masks and then I put the cut out in a new photoshop window. There was a small gap between the two masks so I used the eyedropper tool and paint brush to close the gap. Once the gap was closed I used the smudge tool to try and erase some of the crease marks that were present from the light box. After I added the masks to the base photograph I made twelve copies of the masks. The bottom third of the image was quite bland so I put a large mask in the bottom right hand corner along side two smaller versions. The remaining ten mask sets I placed in the windows and altered the hue/saturation on them to make a variation of colours, to make the lyceum more colourful to match the crucibles bright colours. For the letter e I used the magic eraser tool and transferred it to a top layer and positioned it in the bottom left corner which I think worked well with the lights in the flooring.

A Month Of Sundays:

With this image I didn't like the colouring I thought it was too yellow so I altered the hue/saturation. There was some shadowing on the lettering on  the sign so I used the eyedropper tool to match the colour but it wasn't a particularly good match so I altered the colour balance and went over all the lettering using the paintbrush tool. To cut out the Frank stencil I used the magnetic lasso tool to cut him out. I then altered the colour balance of Frank because I wanted to try and match the logo on the gallery wall more. I then made multiple copies of Frank and aligned them at the bottom of the page to make the gallery the focus point. For the letter f I used the magic eraser tool and copied it to a new layer and positioned it in the top left hand corner.

Sheffield Forgemasters:

The base photograph was satisfactory. I used the magnetic lasso tool to cut out the logo and made an additional two copies which I then made smaller. For the stems I used the light painting letter i and tinted it green. After I used the eraser and curved the left and right stems tips leaving the middle one with a straight edge. On the right stem I rubbed out some of its top so it looked as though it was behind the building. For the letter f I used the magic eraser and copied on to the top layer and positioned it in the top right hand corner.

Ponds Forge:

When I took photos outside Ponds forge I wanted to have a really long exposure time and capture as much traffic movement as possible. The final photograph is actually a combination of two photographs layered over each other, I erased the parts of the top photograph that didn't have much light trials and as I did this the light trails could be seen from the other photo. I then used the dodge tool to highlight the Ponds Forge sign on the road. I used the magnetic lasso to cut out the logo and I then layered the original cut out on to the base and created a pattern by duplicating the logo and tilting them slightly to the left. Afterwards I used the lettering from the Month of Sundays photograph and added it to the top layer and positioned it in the top left corner.

Sheffield Wednesday:

I really liked the coloring on this photograph as it seems to go from dark (left) to light (right). As with all the other stencils I used the magnetic lasso but I also used the magic want to clean the stencil up. I then made three copies of the original and positioned them in the image to try and make it look as though they are perching on the site by using the war p transform. For the letter e I simply copied the one I had cut out earlier from the Lyceum and Crucible photograph.

Sheffield United:

I found this photograph particularly difficult to capture as the road was narrow so I couldn't move back far enough and I didn't bring a wide angle lens with me. I couldn't avoid the street light because of parked cars but I think it works well with light painting theme. I darkened the photograph because I found the street light too bright and it also made the stars become more prominent. I used the magnetic lasso tool again and added an after glow this time leaving the transparency alone. The letter L was created by fusing two lower case l's together as I thought the lower case l alone was uninteresting.

Meadowhall:

For this photo because I had been doing long exposure shots I used the paintbrush tool to darken the the sky but still including the passing plane lights. I used the magnetic lasso tool to cut the meadowhall domes out and made a pattern along the bottom of the photograph varying the overlaps. I used the magic eraser to cut the letter out and placed it in the top right hand conrner.

Sheffield View:

Because of the long eposure the sky had become quite light so I used the paintbrush tool and coverd the sky up. I then altered the image to black and white so the lights would stand out more. After I used all the letters from the other photographs and put them in one layer.
